Forgoing traditional spring break activities, more than 700 students from colleges and universities
throughout the United States and Canada volunteered to participate in Miami Habitat’s
Collegiate Challenge 2011.

Sponsored by Bank of America, the alternative spring break program featured five weeks of
students building homes in Liberty City and preparing the construction sites for Miami Habitat’s
annual Blitz Build. The students participated in various tasks such as roofing, drywall, carpentry,
painting and landscaping.

“Working along these students was especially rewarding to the many colleagues that joined me in
laying the foundation for this year’s Blitz Build,” said Gene Schaefer, Market President for
Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties for Bank of America. “After many years of sponsoring homes
and countless volunteer hours, this year’s Collegiate Challenge was an especially energizing
experience knowing it also contributed to engaging our youth in addressing our community’s
most pressing needs.”
