| Baptist Health South Florida has been a long-time partner of Miami Habitat. Since 2000, Baptist has donated almost half a million dollars to Habitat for Humanity. Additionally, Baptist sends out dozens of volunteers each year to help construct homes that they have sponsored. |
|
Phyllis Oeters, Corporate Vice President of Government & Community Relations, explains why. "It's ingrained into our corporate values to give back. Baptist is out in the community over 26 Saturdays in a calendar year to raise money for worthwhile non-profit organizations." To underscore this commitment, every Baptist executive serves on the board for a non-profit organization. Arlenna Williams, Baptist's Assistant Vice-President, serves on Habitat's Board of Directors. |

Habitat for Humanity remains one of Baptist's most important relationships. Baptist has sponsored ten houses in the last seven years. Currently, they are sponsoring Ms. Monique Clark's home in South Miami. In addition to providing the funds for construction, Baptist was also involved in acquiring the land. "We also reached out to other organizations, like the Rotary Club, which is helping to provide some of the appliances in the home," adds Ms. Oeters |

Does she have any advice for companies that want to know how to spend their charity dollars? "If companies will just reach out to one project, they will see that their employees actually want to do more. I'm amazed by our employees' enthusiasm. They constantly ask when the next workday will be. I think that building together helps to get employees feel closer to one another. It's in giving that you truly receive." |
