10th Annual Blitz Build - Scott-Carver
January 14-26, 2008

Ten homes. Two weeks.

8th Annual Blitz Build - Jordan CommonsThe work of Habitat for Humanity is sustained solely through partnerships. Aside from donations of land, Habitat takes no money from the government.  No tax dollars are used to build homes...only donations of generous individuals, corporations, churches and other organizations.  Without your donations, Habitat would not be able to build decent, affordable houses for low-income families in need.

What makes Habitat for Humanity such a great investment for your charity dollars?

  • The need is great.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2005 American Community Survey, Miami has the third highest poverty rate for a city its size, with nearly a third of the population living in poverty.  Some heads of household spend as much as 75% of their income on rent, which leaves far too little for their children to subsist on.
  • The result is greater.  With donations from generous individuals, corporations, churches and civic organizations, Habitat is able to build about 40 homes a year for low-income families.  Homes are sold to the homeowner at around $105,000, and with the zero-interest loan Habitat provides, mortgage payments are approximately $550.  This allows poorer families to achieve the American dream of homeownership.
  • Donations are tax deductible.  Habitat is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
  • The State of Florida offers businesses a tax credit for their donation.  The State provides a 50% tax credit to businesses that make donations to groups like Habitat for Humanity. The State allows businesses to receive the 50% tax credit against any sales tax or state income tax.  Your donation can be cash, real estate, equipment or supplies.
  • It shows your commitment to ending poverty housing.  There is no need for people to live in substandard or inadequate housing.  Your contribution will work toward putting an end to poverty housing in Miami-Dade.
  • Your contribution is effectively utilized.  Of each dollar raised, 92% of your contribution in invested in program services, 7% in administration, and 1% in fundraising.
