Save Our SHIP

Act now to save this critical funding source for Habitat affiliates across the state

Help save our SHIP!

The Governor's recently released budget proposal eliminates the State's affordable housing trust fund. The housing trust supports programs like the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP), which helps many low-income families in Miami-Dade County and across the state obtain (or keep) decent, affordable housing.  Many Habitat for Humanity homeowners utilize SHIP funds for down payment assistance on a home that they have built, in part, with their own hands.

Now is the time for YOU to write their legislators and let them know how important this funding for affordable housing is.

Donate Your Dime

Whole Foods-Coral Gables allow shoppers to share their rewards with Miami Habitat

The Whole Foods Market in Coral Gables (6701 Red Road) is giving customers who reuse their own grocery bags the option of donating their rewards to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami.  The Donate Your Dime program, a chain-wide Whole Foods initiative, gives customers $0.10 for every reusable bag they use while shopping at Whole Foods.  Customers can keep their dime rebate, donate it to the Whole Planet Foundation, or gift it to an organization designated by that particular Whole Foods market on a quarterly basis.
For the first quarter of 2011, the Whole Foods Market in Coral Gables has designated Miami Habitat.

This means that between now and April 10th, if you shop at Whole Foods using your reusable grocery bag, you will be able to support Miami Habitat's mission one dime at a time.

Nonprofit organizations like Miami Habitat are only eligible to participate in Donate Your Dime once a year, for one particular three month stretch.  So be sure to shop at Whole Foods-Coral Gables before April 10th and demonstrate your support.

Building with the Stars

Days, Telemundo and mun2 stars volunteer with Miami Habitat
It was a beautiful Tuesday afternoon, and all the stars were out.  The daytime stars, of course.

Those stars were from NBC’s long-running soap Days of Our Lives, as well as Telemundo and mun2.   They joined dozens of volunteers from around South Florida and Miami Habitat staffers to help build a home for a low-income family in Liberty City.  Read more

Robert Molendyk

Robert Molendyk is good with his hands.  He always has been; growing up in a farming community in southwest Montana, he had to be.

Now retired, Robert donates those good hands two days a week – every week – to the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami ReStore.

As a boy, he helped fix farm equipment and machinery, and repaired old buildings.  As a young adult, Robert used his fix-it skills to pay his way through high school and college.  Now he is the Miami ReStore’s go-to handyman, repairing everything from donated furniture to the ReStore itself.
