Habitat and Lowe’s Team up for National Women Build Week

Volunteers at Women Build
As part of Habitat for Humanity’s
National Women Build Week,
more than 80 women worked on
eight Liberty City homes on May
7th. The effort of Habitat for
Humanity’s Women Build
program is underwritten by
Lowe’s, which has awarded $1.3
million to more than 250 Habitat
affiliates throughout the country.
More than 10,000 female
volunteers participated in builds
nationwide. Locally, Lowe’s
provided a training clinic as well
as financial assistance to the
effort.

The Miami-Dade Women Build effort, focused in Liberty City, is in line with Miami Habitat’s ongoing Liberty City Shine campaign, which aims to build new homes for low-income families, and take aholistic approach to neighborhood development. Programs such as “A Brush with Kindness,” reach out to existing neighborhood homeowners to assist them with home beautification efforts.

To date, Women Build volunteers have completed six homes and worked on countless others. Opportunities to participate in our next Women Build are available from August 27-December 3, 2011. Please contact dominique [dot] brandt [at] miamihabitat [dot] org (Dominique Brandt) to reserve your spot. —AS
