A little more than a dozen Habitat Young Professionals converged on a townhouse just outside Liberty City on Saturday, October 30th. They might have been trick-or-treating, but it was 7:45 am. Instead, they delivered A Brush With Kindness to a Habitat homeowner family.
The townhouse, just off of NW 78th street on NW 1st avenue, was in need of some interior touching-up. So the HYP-ers broke out the paint, brushes and rollers and got to work. Five good hours of work resulted in gleaming new white walls and ceilings, and several thoroughly paint-splattered young professionals.
The project, which was sponsored by area law firm Bilzin Sumberg (breakfast and lunch were provided by Einstien’s Bagels and Jimmy Johns, respectively), was part of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami’s A Brush With Kindness program, which provides painting, landscaping, and minor repairs to low income homeowners who may not have the capacity or the resources to perform such work themselves. Differing slightly from the usual home construction and rehabilitation Habitat is known for, A Brush With Kindness nonetheless contributes to stronger communities through increased homeowner pride.
The October Build represented the quarterly Habitat build for the Habitat Young Professionals Network. The date and location of next quarter’s build has yet to be determined.
