Demolition kicks off rebuilding project

On a recent Wednesday at 10 a.m., about 30 Opa-locka residents watched as brightyellow demolition equipment tore apart an old and abandoned house on Washington Avenue. While looking at the destroyed pieces of the house, residents clapped -- and many shared their hopes of living in a neighborhood known for its sense of community rather than its reputation for violence.
