Habitat holds annual building blitz

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Thousands of volunteers took part in a building blitz for Habitat for Humanity.

Over 2,000 volunteers participated in the 13th annual Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami Blitz Build, Saturday.

The volunteers worked to build 10 homes in 10 days in Liberty City, along with the future homeowners, who also helped build their dream homes. "It's a great privilege to put something, you know, when you put your sweat in it, you tend to appreciate it more," said one Habitat homeowner, Tracey Sharpe.

Mario Artecona, CEO of Habitat Miami, said, "Those that are less fortunate are sometimes forgotten first, when there's tough economic times. So we're lucky to be able to provide a service for these families."

7 News meteorologist Vivian Gonzalez was one of the many who pitched in during the building blitz. University of Miami mascot Sebastian the Ibis also came out to cheer on the hard-working volunteers.

WSVN is a proud sponsor of Habitat for Humanity.
