Liberty City Shine!

In Jeremiah 29:7, the Lord exhorts the Israelites to seek the peace and prosperity of Babylon, the city where they had been taken into captivity. He says, "Pray to the LORD for it because if it prospers, you too will prosper." He calls His people, who had been marched from Jerusalem to Babylon, to set down roots, to marry and to multiply - to make the city their new home. This passage conveys the fullness of what Miami Habitat seeks for our community. As God called his people in Babylon to seek the peace and prosperity of the city, so He calls us to make
Liberty City Shine!

Miami Habitat began work in this inner-city neighborhood with the Jimmy Carter Work Project in 1991, and the construction of 14 new homes and a daycare center. In 2005, the Miami Habitat office relocated directly south of Liberty City. Just a year later, Miami-Dade County asked Habitat to step in and salvage the largely abandoned HOPE VI building project 30 blocks immediately north of the office. In its most ambitious urban project yet, HFHGM undertook the building 52 homes where the former Scott-Carver housing projects were located. It was in this way that God provided Miami Habitat with a strong presence and foundation in Liberty City.

After the successful completion of Scott Carver, Miami-Dade County donated more than 100 scattered lots throughout the greater Liberty City area to HFHGM. More recently, Miami Habitat was the recipient of Neighborhood Stabilization Program 2 funding which will allow for the purchase vacant land, and foreclosed and abandoned properties within six census tracts located in and around Liberty City.  Following this, HFHGM launched "A Brush With Kindness," a program designed to refurbish the exterior of older homes in need of repair. With a solid foundation and a clear path forward, Miami Habitat is poised to engage this community in partnership and for mutual prosperity.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami invites you to                Census tracts with lots
help make Liberty  City Shine.  Miami Habitat's formula for bringing hope to this neighborhood calls for the presence of concerned individuals and the investment of local banks, businesses,  churches, and civic groups. Over the next three years HFHGM will partner with more than 255 families in and around the historic community and wants you to become a part of this transformation.

How can I help make Liberty City Shine?

Volunteer - Miami Habitat is looking for individuals and groups to volunteer on the construction site, in the office, or at the ReStore. By donating your time, you help keep the cost of construction down, which means Habitat can build more homes
for more families in need of decent shelter.

Donate - As a non-profit, Miami Habitat is dependent on the generosity of local businesses, banks, churches and individuals. You can donate the cost of a door, or window, or you can spread the shine by purchasing a "shine kit" comprised of a Bible and energy efficient light bulbs for one of
our homeowners. Donate Now!
