Message from the Chief Executive Officer

CEO Mario Artecona with the Gardner Family

The English poet Alexander Pope
once famously wrote “Hope springs
eternal.”  Although he wrote those
words in the early 1800’s, the
sentiment remains true as ever in
modern times.

Hope is what drives Habitat in
everything we do.  Our families
hope to provide their children
with a safe and comfortable place
to call their own.  It is their hope,
with every hour worked and drop
of sweat perspired, to give their
families the opportunities they
never had.

Our volunteers hope that by contributing their time and energy, they will make a difference in the life of a stranger. They hope that, like drops filling a bucket, little by little, the problems that challenge our world will erode and that a new, better one is on the horizon.

Sponsors and friends of Habitat hope that by providing necessary resources, they too will share in the joy and happiness of our homeowners.

Our staff hopes that all of their efforts, all of their long hours and all of their passion, will allow us to continue to fulfill the Habitat mission of providing affordable housing opportunities to God’s people in need.

Without hope, all is lost.  There is no shortage of hope at Habitat.

Miami Habitat’s fiscal year, which concluded on June 30, 2011, was the most active in the affiliate’s history.  Thanks to all of our families, volunteers, sponsors, friends, and staff, 70 homes were completed and are now, or will soon be, the fulfillment of the dreams of the families who live in them.

Our 2011-12 plans call for breaking that record as we hope to build or rehab 90 homes in Liberty City.

Our efforts are not just limited to building.  In addition to placing families in Habitat homes, Miami Habitat is very committed to making an impact on the entire Liberty City community.  By strengthening our relationships, as well as forging new ones, we seek to be part of a community wide effort to empower this neighborhood and make Liberty City Shine!

On behalf of all us at Miami Habitat, we hope you will join us in reaching our goals and in making the dreams of our families come true.

God bless you.
