Citi Global Community Day |
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami along with Citi, the prominent global financial services company, worked on ten properties in the Liberty City area, helping with new home construction as well as exterior painting and landscaping, rehabbing an existing home, and even planting vegetable gardens and fruit trees with Habitat homeowners. The day’s activity offered a look into many of Miami Habitat’s programs and initiatives, including the overarching Liberty City Shine campaign, the A Brush With Kindness program, Women Build, the organization’s new partnership with Urban GreenWorks, and the concerted involvement of existing community organizations and businesses. More than 100 Citi volunteers played the part of “Neighborhood Revitalization Agents,“ joining members of the Liberty City community and homeowners in the various service projects. Read More |
Featured Homeowner Kesner St. Hilaire |
At one point in the summer of 2009, it looked like home ownership would remain an unattained dream for Kesner St. Hilaire and his family. Having applied once to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami earlier that year and then being forced to withdraw his application when he lost his job, Kesner had found new employment, re-filed his paperwork, and was poised to sign his letter of intent to purchase. Each member of Miami Habitat’s paid construction staff – who are required to be on site in a supervisory capacity – donate their time on Synagogue Sunday. Read More |
Habitat for the Holidays |
With the holiday season approaching, our thoughts and prayers naturally turn toward those less fortunate, our neighbors and friends who struggle at a time when many are preoccupied with celebration and merrymaking. It is a time, as we prepare for family gatherings and parties with friends and coworkers, when the idea of community becomes tangible and acute, and we reflect on those who lack it. At Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami, we have dedicated ourselves to building stronger, sustainable communities in places robbed of this basic human connection by crime, violence or despair. We strive to attain this through the creation of home ownership opportunities in these areas, and among low income families who reside there. This is what our Liberty City Shine campaign is working to achieve through the construction and rehabilitation of 255 homes in the Liberty City area over the next three years. Read More |
