When you think of a Habitat for Humanity volunteer, you probably think of a person helping to build a house: hammering nails, raising a frame, painting a wall.  Anitrice McKinnis certainly did her share of that kind of work as her Overtown residence was being constructed- 250 hours' worth, to be precise.  Once her 'sweat equity' obligations were met, however, Anitrice did something special: she kept on volunteering.  And volunteering.  And then she volunteered some more.  Read More

The financial giant partners with Miami Habitat on upcoming Global Community Day

Citi, the prominent global financial services company, along
with The Citi Foundation, its charitable arm, have partnered
with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami to support the organization’s Liberty City Shine campaign.  Citi recently awarded Miami Habitat with a Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative (NRI) Strategic Investment Grant (SIG) to help perpetuate the Habitat mission of changing lives and
communities through the construction of decent,affordable
homes in partnership with low income families.

Women Working Wonders

Saturday, September 18th marked the start of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami's Fall Women Build.  The by-women, for-women build teams began construction on Tomika Jackson's home in Liberty City, and will continue until December 4th.  Pictures from the first two Women Build days- September 18th and 25th- are available here.

No Fee, New Home

 Miami Habitat keeps $0 application fee in response to homeowner interest

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami is extending its no-fee application period until the end of October.  The application fee holiday, which went into effect September 1st, was originally scheduled to expire on September 30th.  Due to the fantastic response from aspiring homeowners, however, Miami Habitat has decided to continue waiving the $25 fee until October 30th.  Apply today!

Office Volunteers Wanted 

 
Do you have clerical/office skills? Experience with Raiser's Edge, Microsoft Word or Excel? Miami Habitat
is looking for weekly volunteers at our main office, and we would love for you to help!
 
Volunteers can work a half or full day, or even just a couple of hours. Our office is open Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm. If you are willing to lend a hand, please contact carlos [dot] beron [at] miamihabitat [dot] org (Carlos Beron), Volunteer Coordinator.
