Habitat for Humanity and Lowe’s team up for National Women Build Week
Local female volunteers answer call to help eliminate poverty housing
Miami, FL, May 7, 2011 — As part of Habitat for Humanity’s National Women Build Week, more than 100 women will be working on several Liberty City Habitat homes on Saturday, May 7th.

The effort of Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program is underwritten by Lowe’s stores which is awarding $1.3 million to more than 250 Habitat affiliates throughout the country.  Approximately 10,000 female volunteers are expected to participate in builds nationally. Locally, Lowe’s is providing in-store training as well as financial assistance to the effort.

The Miami-Dade Women Build effort, focused in Liberty City, is in line with Miami Habitat’s ongoing Liberty City Shine campaign, which aims to not only build new homes for low-income families, but also takes a holistic approach to neighborhood development with programs such as “A Brush with Kindness,” which reaches out to existing neighborhood homeowners and assists them with home beautification efforts.

Miami Habitat’s Women Build is a yearly event and to date has counted on the participation of more than 1000 volunteers. To date, Women Build has completed 6 homes and worked on countless others.
