Featured Volunteer
Andrew Ramsay

Andy RamsayAndrew Ramsay started volunteering with Habitat for Humanity in 2005 just before the Blitz Build. Recently retired from a career at the National Oceanagraphic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), he had no construction experience, but he was determined to help in any way he could. "I wanted to be of service to people who were in need."

Since those early days, nearly every house built by Habitat has Andy's fingerprints. He has built homes in Jordan Commons, Overtown, and Scott-Carver/Liberty City. He volunteers twice a week--more when the need is greatest. Come to the site on Faith Day, Synagogue Sunday, or during the Blitz, and you will see Andy there.

"I learned how to build while on the job." He now leads groups of volunteers, teaching them tasks he himself has been taught.

Earlier this year, Habitat presented Andy with the Big Hammer Award for his tireless and faithful service. Habitat is grateful to Andy for his heart of service to homeowner families and to his commitment to ending poverty housing in this community.

At 69 years old, Andy finds spiritual satisfaction by building with Habitat. "What better way is there to serve our Maker?"
