On a Saturday afternoon in June, under the warm South Florida skies, a group of socially conscious young professionals channeled their inner 4th graders and competed in a spirited game of kickball at Miami’s Biscayne Park. A few weeks earlier, instead of shorts and T-shirts, the same crowd donned their finest business attire for a ‘Build Your Network’ membership drive at FADO Irish Pub. Although the two events were of a completely different nature, the intention of both was the same: to help support the mission of Miami Habitat. Habitat Young Professionals (HYP) of Greater Miami is a philanthropic and networking group of young professionals committed to making a difference in Miami’s urban core through volunteering, fundraising and spreading then word about Habitat. Currently led by advertising and marketing professional Sharon Joseph, the organization boasts over 400 participants from many professions including, bankers, lawyers, business executives and entrepreneurs Past HYP events have included bowling, wine tastings, volunteer build n’ chills and an art sale at Wynwood’s Cafeina. Of course, it’s not always fun and games, HYP members also volunteer their time performing family selection visits and building Habitat homes for families in need of decent housing.
